Prerequisites:

  • Math: Introductory Calculus Through Differential Equations
  • Physics: One year (calculus-based)
  • Computer Sciences: One course
  • Chemistry: One year college-level

Students accepted without these requirements shall pass these courses before advancing to candidacy.

In addition, applicants to the specialty fields of Molecular Imaging, Medical Imaging and Therapeutic Medical Physics shall have acquired a strong foundation in basic physics documented by a degree in physics, or a degree in engineering, mathematics or other science with physics training equivalent to a minor in physics (upper level courses in electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, atomic structure, statistical mechanics and mechanics). Students may be accepted with some deficiencies in entrance course requirements. However, deficiencies must be removed prior to advancement to candidacy.

Application Materials:

PART A:

  1. Complete the UCLA Graduate Division application. An online application can be found online here
  2. $60.00 Application Fee.

PART B:

  1. Two Official Transcripts.
  2. Test Scores :
    • GRE General required, Subject Score optional. The GRE must have been taken within 3-4 years prior to application. Regarding items 11 and 12 on the GRE Registration Form: Institution Code/Department Code is 4837/0222. Please send a copy of your original test score to us as soon as you receive it.
    • TOEFL Score (applicable to foreign students--must have been taken within 3-4 years prior to application).
  3. Fellowship Application.
  4. Supplementary Information.
  5. Statement of Purpose.
  6. Three Letters of Recommendation. If you already have a master's degree, one of the letters should be from your master's advisor. Note: Please put our departmental name (Biomedical Physics Interdepartmental Graduate Program) and last four digits of our zip code (1721) on Part D, so that letters of recommendation will be delivered directly to our office.
  7. Cross Reference Sheet (only if your transcripts will be issued under a different name from the name you have given on the application).
  8. Financial Statement for Students Seeking Non-Immigrant Visas, if applicable.
  9. Departmental Information Sheet: Supplement to the Application for Admission to Graduate Status

Please note that the official deadline for Part A and Part B of the application is December 15 of each year. Applications submitted after the deadline will encounter increased competition.

Please realize that an application will not be considered complete and ready for review by the Faculty Admissions Committee unless the application and the above relevant items have been received.
