Program Overview Supporting Department Sites Molecular and Medical

The faculty members of the BMP Program are primarily drawn from three departments within the David Geffen School of Medicine -- Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, Radiation Oncology, and Radiological Sciences. Additional faculty come from diverse sources, such as Cedars- Sinai Hospital, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, and Leavey Cancer Center. In addition several retired faculty remain actively involved in the program. BIOLOGICAL IMAGING:The goal of this specialty is to educate students in the basic concepts and application of a range of imaging techniques for studying biological systems, with a particular emphasis on in vivo imaging using positron emission tomography (PET). Graduating students should be well prepared for the many career oppportunities in biological imaging (both in academia and industry) or for careers in a clinical nuclear medicine environment. MEDICAL IMAGINGThe goal of the Medical Imaging faculty is to educate students in the theory and applications of medical imaging and instrumentation. Students are prepared to work in major medical research hospitals and clinics, academic departments, and for major medical imaging instrumentation manufacturers.
